With former United star Cristiano Ronaldo back in Manchester to face City in the Champions League tonight, more than a few Reds have been reminiscing about the impact the Portuguese winger had at Old Trafford.

I’ve had a few Blue mates- and even a couple of Red ones ask the question “why do United fans love Ronaldo so much?” Thought I’d answer it:

Apologies if I missed a few out……

It was no secret that he wanted to play for Real the season before he left. He acted professionally and gave United his best season before eventually transferring. I harbour no ill feeling towards his united career. Great player.

I cannot understand why United fans get precious when we talk highly, and even cheer for former players?

The amount of times I see moody tweets along the lines of “Why do you care about Berbatov, he doesn’t play for us anymore” or “stop with this viva Ronaldo shit, he left us”….. Errr bothered!

It is OK to sing about Cantona, Solskjaer, Brown or Park because they’ve gone downhill/retired after leaving us, yet talking about others who are still World Class is wrong?

    Idiotic.

    Viva Ronaldo.

that boy ronaldo makes city look shite

  7. n0bber says:

We took on a boy and made him a man…It was always his dream to play for RM…I dont hold that against him, however, I dont hold him in the same bracket as of respect as Robson, Cantona, Giggs, Scholes and of course the trinity (to name a few) but he was an exceptional talent for United but its UNITED that made him and he knows that and acknowleges it which is a sign of what SAF did for him.

  8. Baz says:

We respect them and want them to do well at their respective clubs because we acknowledge what they have done for us. We show more class than Arsenal fans, and we hold no grudges against former players because we know it doesn’t get bigger than United.

  9. Richard Maguire says:

My finest memory is after Van Nistlerooy missed the peno against Arsenal and was attacked by Martin Keown, a then 17 year old Ronaldo was the 1st one into the melee…..

    • NathonW says:

      Could not agree more.

Ronaldo was the only one who showed courage that day while the rest of our players melted…. just like our season did that year.

Ronaldo IS a legend. Full stop. Anyone who is bitter about him leaving needs to get a grip. Ask urself this. If you played for Real Madrid and loved it there, but then United, who u supported all ur life and always hoped u’d play for, came calling. Would u turn it down? No, u’d go in a heart beat. Ronny blatantly feels the reality hasn’t lived up to the dream though now and I for one hope there’s only one place he’d head if he does leave Real- back where he belongs. All the haters would quickly shut up if he came back an started doing dominating matches. Vivvvvvvvaaaaaaa Ronnnaaaaaaaldo!!!!!!!
