Will Danny be at United next season?

Will Danny be at United next season?

Something amiss with a certain Top of the Pops presenter, Robin Van Persie to United, there’s only so many times you can hear a certain rumour before you have to believe there may be some truth to it.

The latest story that seems to have enough legs to have moved from the ‘possible’ category to the ‘likely’ one is the idea that United have done a deal to bring Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski to Old Trafford in the Summer.

The Sun notes: The Borussia Dortmund striker will be offered a contract worth £80,000 a week over five years.

That £20m jackpot doubles the money the Pole, 24, is paid by the German champs.

It will also be seen as a huge statement of intent by United boss Alex Ferguson.

Lewandowksi has been prolific for the German Champions with a ratio of practically a goal every other  game in his two and a bit seasons there (115 apps 53 goals to be precise). There’s also the appealing fact for United fans that the tall Polish striker will be no stranger to Shinji Kagawa a player he formed a formidable understanding with when the diminutive midfielder was with the German champions.

The only reason the deal may seem a little odd is when it comes to strikers United still have England’s first choice ‘number 9’ almost struggling to even get off the bench at times, or forced to play out wide. The idea of bringing in another striker when Danny Welbeck has played hardly any games in his favoured position for United, seems strange to say the least, especially when you consider Chicharito rarely gets a start either.

Welbeck hasn’t had anywhere near the run he needs to find some consistency and it’s painfully obvious to everyone except Sir Alex Ferguson that the Longsight-born youngster isn’t suited to being a left winger.

Should Lewandowski arrive at Old Trafford in the Summer then we may well see Danny Welbeck making an exit, which is a shame as at the age of 22, there’s every chance the Mancunian will one day blossom into the striker he’s already shown signs of becoming. I’m a big fan of Welbeck and believe we need to keep hold of him no matter who signs for us, the question is “does Sir Alex agree?”

Is there still hope for Danny if Lewandowski signs in the Summer? Do we really believe the latest rumours about the big striker joining?

it’s obvious that he’s the weakest among the first team strikers. he’s downfall is due to his weak positioning and useless left foot. he’s way too predictable to defend against

There would be no chance for Welbeck if the rumours about Lewondoski are true. I would have thought Hernandez would leave as well. It makes no sense for another striker to arrive, even if I am a fan of the Polish striker. I don’t see how everyone fits and where the balance is.

I would be sceptical thouugh about the story. This time last year all the papers had Man Utd down to sign Nicolas Gaitan and that never happened. Ferguson will have to look at getting a new central defender, defensive midfielder and a winger this summer before any striker. Unless of course Wayne Rooney is leaving this summer. If thats the case then I can see Robert Lewondoski being signed.

Makes no sense really. Chicharito & Welbeck are 2 already proven international strikers but bring this guy in and it’s gonna be a pretty depressing message that both would get since this guy would get a starting XI spot due to his salary. Both Chicharito & Welbeck love the club and play FOR the club, why stunt their growth?

Signing lewandowski is A nice asset, he has some attribute which “might” put him ahead of chicharito. Bt d lik of wazza & RVP he is yet to their standard bt has d potential to surpass them… their ll be no mch pressure settling down @ d club since he is no stranger to players lik kagawa… Even without kagawa ,man utd has something that Cant be explained that players lik ronaldo want to make A return. Bt d main point is about welbeck, he is A good player bt I dont think he can keep d competition @ man utd forward , he has to play in d left flank position sometimes, his lack of finishing as let him drop down d rank…& man utd flank has players lik young & kagawa which I fink he is not up to their standard as well. Their is no place 4 him @ d club anymore, I think d best is to find him A new club he is Just 22 & not to set back his dream @ d national level since he won’t be having much. Playing time if he decide to stay & fight for position…..

Lewandowski is a world class striker and I would sell Hernandez before Welbeck. A much better prospect and a better footballer overall. The Mexican will also give more cash in the way things are now. Hernandez hasnt improved at all since he came. Like Fowler, Owen etc he doesnt show much besides being at the end of attacks. Does he have any assist? This season he has scored vital goals on several occations, but he has also missed a lot of chances. Vs Newcastle he should have scored at least 3

Sell Hernandez? He already has 10 goals which is more than Welbeck managed all of last season. You say “he doesn’t show much besides being at the end of attacks……he has scored vital goals on several occasions” as if those are bad things. You must have hated Solskjær too. Players like Chicharito and Solskjær are uncommon finds. True game-changers. Who gives a crap if they can’t cross well or have few assists? In the league right now, can you think of any other player besides Chicharito who you can pull of the bench when you need a goal and be pretty damn sure you’ll get it?

I’ll bet my unborn son that in 2 seasons Danny Welbeck will be a 6-8 goal a season striker for a newly promoted Bolton Wanderers or some other other mid-table club managed by Steve Bruce.

But I do feel for Welbeck and I’d be pretty damn confused if I were him. Last season, he was considered better than Berbatov, became a guaranteed England player and now he can’t get a look in.

We lost the league for a lot of reasons last season but in the end it came down to goals. Welbeck didn’t score very many and this season he’s on track for even fewer. He can’t play well on the wing and his finishing is worse this year than last and it’s clear that we don’t have the “luxury” of letting a young player sort himself out by starting week-in and out. Unless someone is injured, there’s no place for him right now and with Lewandowski there’d be even less of one.

  6. the signing of polish man lewandowski can nevr back slide danny welbeck, Rooney might be favoured as a midfield which he said that he loved most to play dip into, danny is one of the united power horse player,in last two yrs and he’s to young to be left alone.or sit on bench, and sir alex wil nevr let him go, like he said. And dont forget van pasie is now 29yrs,who knws what wil happen in future, and remember danny wil stil be man u legend in future

  7. al bash says:

He was getting games out of favour of been English, he’s just an average player, nothing more. He squanders chances, he’s got only one goal to his name all season, played all most equal games with Chicha if not even more, but Chicha has got 10 to his name. If Robert arrives, heads will roll, and Welbecks is the best chance to go

  8. Bestwillneverbebettered says:

I hope it happens. RVP is a great all around striker but approaching 30. Rooney gets less impressive every season and at the moment the jury is out on whether Chicherito and Wellbeck will ever be genuinely top class.
However I sense Fergies biggest frustration is with Rooney. He can still do it on occasion as against City but equally he can be awful as against Swansea and increasingly his average performance is just not that special..
Fergie must be tempted to cash in whilst Rooney still has a big transfer value and I can see him going next summer to the likes of PSG.

  9. vincent says:

bringing a new striker means dat as usual each striker wil av to work hard to earn a position in a match so the competition wud be better n put united in contention to score many goal.in other ways the new diamond play may include more strikers than midfield hence during the attack the opponent wont know who wil pull the trigger.remember christiano roney n tevez combination?i think saf wants to go bak to that n he needs more fast strikers.bring even ronaldo.
