RVP will be buzzing Williams is on his way

Sir Alex Ferguson is set to make a Summer move for Swansea’s League Cup lifting  centre back Ashley Williams according to a report in the Mirror.

Normally such suggestions would be taken with a severe table spoon of salt, but following the signing last Summer of Robin Van Persie- a transfer first reported in the Mirror- its worth considering as at the very least possible.

The Mirror notes:

Manchester United are weighing up a shock move for Swansea skipper Ashley Williams — the man Sir Alex Ferguson infamously claimed “could have killed” Robin van Persie.

Williams, who captains the Swans in today’s Capital One Cup Final, is a known target of Liverpool, with former boss Brendan Rodgers a huge admirer.

But now Ferguson, who was raging about Williams kicking the ball at a grounded Van Persie during December’s clash at Swansea, is keeping close tabs on the Wales centre-back as he looks to revamp his defence.

Signing a new centre back may not seem like the most important transfer deal Sir Alex should be chasing, with Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans, Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Phil Jones all possibilities in central defence. Scratch the surface though and a move for another centre back may not seem that far-fetched. With doubts over Ferdinand’s future, Vidic’s recent injury problems and the idea that Jones may actually be better used in midfield maybe strengthening that department is necessity.

Williams star is definitely on the rise as Swansea have not only stormed to the top half of the Premier League but also lifted their first major trophy. The fact the Swans have only conceded three more goals than United in the league will not have been lost on Sir Alex who cannot have been impressed with some of the goals the Reds have conceded this season.

    Bye

  2. Trevor says:

Why buy another centre half when you already have five and then you have Keane and Wooton only a Coluple of years away to take over from Rio and Vidic.
Williams is 28 and so will he play every game..I doubt it.
Save the money and buy two midfielders.
