The youngsters lack of goals is not an issue for Sir Alex

United have been scoring freely this season with practically every player in the squad contributing to the plus column as the Reds can’t seem to stop finding the net.

With Wayne Rooney’s recent brace against Southampton, Chicharito picking up where he, well never really left to be perfectly honest and Robin Van Persie exceeding even the most optimistic expectations United have the firepower to score against any side.

One player who has struggled to find the net this season is Danny Welbeck who’s only managed to score once. Sir Alex Ferguson was unimpressed when asked whether the Longsight-born striker’s lack of goals was worrying and whether he needed to keep his chin up?

“Keep Danny’s chin up? That’s not hard, trying to keep him down is harder.”

“He’s a great personality to have around the club.”

When pressed on the issue though, the United boss lost his jovial air pointing out the fact that Rio Ferdinand hadn’t scored in a long time while Nemanja Vidic also only had one goal arguing that like the defenders Welbeck makes an important contribution.

Although one goal all season is a paltry return for an attacking player there’s no doubt Welbeck plays his part as Sir Alex no doubt realises.

Wellbeck has been playing not well so far this season.
His growth is very slow. Hopefully, it is not the end of his potential in football.
He has his good and bad sides. The upside of him are he’s still young (but soon not be), tall, quick, can “sometimes” control the ball well.
His downside are shooting is terrible, unable to read the game, unwilling to pass ball to teammates or maybe the reason is he can’t read or overview the game,
over-confident to control the ball but he is not really good at that, easy to lose ball, passing skill is unqualified, unwilling to do defending and sometimes is too lazy.
I think not every player is perfect. Some may be good at on controlling the ball, some may be good at shooting, some may be good at passing ball, etc.
But a player should understand his good and bad sides, and try to know what is the best for the team. Of course, if he can change his bad side into good and it would be fantastic.
But, at least, he should know how to use his good side to work out with the team. This is a way to help the team and cooperate with teammates.
“Lack of goal” may not be important if he can create or assist 30 chances to his teammates to score.
Wellbeck. I really want your “well” will be “back” soon.

Interesting comparison with Vidic and Ferdinand. A striker and England one at that puts it in perspective when told us by SAF. Sorry boss but Webeck has had lots of chances to score but has fluffed them – and for a striker that is not good enough

  3. CChris Nicholls says:

Welbeck has a complex about scoring goals. He gets into opportunities to score, like getting into the penalty area ahead of his opponent, only to turn back as if he fears to score a goal.

  4. the truth says:

how can he score when he positioned on the wing ?

  5. Al bash says:

Just not good enough, in everything, not united class for me

wellbeck is utter garbage…however he possesses the only attribute we care about in this country…effort…i didnt renew my season ticket this year for the first time in years as i refuse to watch wellebck and will not go back until he is sold…i have yet to hear anyone praising wellbeck to ever mention talent touch vision goals etc….and i am sick of hearing about him “developing” he is 22 for goodness sake not 17..you used to have to be special to get in sir alexs teams…now as long as you run around like an headless chicken you will get in…..which is fine…but not on my money….love united…hate whats happening to the club….and before people mention we are top of the league…city have the worlds second worst manager..and chelsea have the first….if jose joined either club it would be goodnight…united in recent years have been very very lucky by badly managed or owned rivals……we have won through spirit not talent…

Amazed at some of the comments below. Danny’s having a bit of a drought but hes a terrific young player. Strong, v fast, good touch, great movement, brings others into the game well and is a constant problem for defenders. He needs to score more but theres no reason why he cant add this to his game. He has everything else a striker could need. Give the boy a chance

  8. danny says:

give the boy a chance?? he has scored 1 goal this season…he scored 12 last year when playing practically every game…the same as chica who was injured and supposedly out of form last year while wellbeck was lauded as the new van basten…we lost the league last season because of this overated player who i repeat is 22….and has played plenty..yet “he is developing” i cannot wait until he developes and stops resembling a cat chasing a balloon.

  9. welbeck is a good player, but for now he is cuurrently not good in every matches. His football charging was also helping united in dealing with their opponents. He help r.v.p in creating many chances in his scoring parterns.
