Could the 24 year old be the next step for SAF?

Could the 24 year old be the next step for SAF?

A few weeks, in fact scratch that, several hours ago if someone asked you whether Dortmund’s Polish striker Robert Lewandowski was needed at United the answer was probably no.

We have Robin Van Persie, Javier Hernandez, Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck why would we need another striker, it’s the midfield stupid! – to paraphrase a former President’s campaign manager. Yet all that was before Lewandowski went and scored four goals against Real Madrid becoming the first player in Champions League history, kinda puts Welbeck’s header in the shade a little doesn’t it?

While many Reds, myself included, were of the opinion that we’re fine in the striker department, more than a few were saying the same this time last year. Even when a talented goalscorer like Robin Van Persie was touted as a possible Summer signing, more than a few Reds felt we were well equipped to regain our title without him, again myself included.

Four goals against Madrid changes that though for some of us though as realistically how can any club ignore a player with the ability to decimate one of the best side’s in Europe? Okay Madrid aren’t exactly unbeatable, La Liga has proven that this year, but any side managed by Jose Mourinho is always gonna be a force to be reckoned with, especially in the Champions League.

With Lewandowski out of contract in a year- and even reportedly already on his way according to some reports, Rooney being converted into a midfielder, Welbeck seemingly more of a winger – at least in Sir Alex’s eyes and Chicharito the erstwhile ‘super sub’ is the Pole joining the Reds, such a bad thing? He could be the difference in the Champions League something which may become a priority for Sir Alex next season. Do you want to see the Reds sign Lewandowski?

“We should sign an attacking midfielder” WE ALREADY DID!!! His name is Shinji Kagawa.

  4. Dont Ask says:

    How will he fit!?
Dortmund play with one up front and 5 in midfield.
Will he be as effective in a front 2 with RVP? Or will we drop RVP? Doubt it!! Who is going to feed those 2?

I would rather the money spent on the midfield. A complete overhaul in fact! Dortmund have class throughout their midfield and we currently only have Carrick (who has been VERY average for the previous 4 seasons)

Dortmund would have destroyed our midfield!!

I would like us to do away with out and out wingers altogether and fill the midfield with a powerhouse or 2 and creative players who can play anywhere. Maybe a 4-2-3-1 like all the othe top performing clubs

    Rant over!

I hope that Lewandowski is pulling on the United shirt next season. I know it will be in the place of Hernandez but when you have VanPersie who has the ability to play anywhere on the field and with Rooney and Zaha covering all the forward positions all United will need is two strong midfielders to go with Carrick, Cleverley and Kagawa and maybe a defender
United will be in for everything next season and will not be frightened of the Germans

Not sure a combative midfielder is needed these days. After all we won the champions league with Carrick and Scholes in the middle and Hargreaves and Ronaldo on the flanks and then got to 2 more finals with a similar line up. Although I have to admit a combative midfielder would be my preference but not a nessecity, after all Barca don’t have a midfield terminator and they have done ok without one. After last night performance everyone must have taken note of Lewandowski, but it looks as though he as Munich bound, but if rumours are true he may well prefer a move to England, after all England is home to many Poles as it is. Him and RVP up front and get our wingers back on form and we might be challenging for Europe again, if not get used to CL quarter finals and second round knock outs, as the Germans have just raised the bar this week considerably. Not sure what would happen to Rooney though, midfield? Possibly but that slot looks tailor made for Mr Kagawa.

I was all in favour of RvP because he had the lethal finishing Danny lacked. And it’s worked great.

But I don’t see Lewandowski better than Rooney as 2nd striker or RvP as 1st.

Myabe better than Rooney, but then he has to be sold.

what we need more is a midfielder like strootman or fellaini or wanyama.lewandowski would be a plus considering rooney could be used as cm.besides gundogan also would be great.for being able to kick ass next season on all fronts i would love to have wanyama, gundogan, lewandowski and integrate the good kids from the academy
