Could the 24 year old be the next step for SAF?

Could the 24 year old be the next step for SAF?

A few weeks, in fact scratch that, several hours ago if someone asked you whether Dortmund’s Polish striker Robert Lewandowski was needed at United the answer was probably no.

We have Robin Van Persie, Javier Hernandez, Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck why would we need another striker, it’s the midfield stupid! – to paraphrase a former President’s campaign manager. Yet all that was before Lewandowski went and scored four goals against Real Madrid becoming the first player in Champions League history, kinda puts Welbeck’s header in the shade a little doesn’t it?

While many Reds, myself included, were of the opinion that we’re fine in the striker department, more than a few were saying the same this time last year. Even when a talented goalscorer like Robin Van Persie was touted as a possible Summer signing, more than a few Reds felt we were well equipped to regain our title without him, again myself included.

Four goals against Madrid changes that though for some of us though as realistically how can any club ignore a player with the ability to decimate one of the best side’s in Europe? Okay Madrid aren’t exactly unbeatable, La Liga has proven that this year, but any side managed by Jose Mourinho is always gonna be a force to be reckoned with, especially in the Champions League.

With Lewandowski out of contract in a year- and even reportedly already on his way according to some reports, Rooney being converted into a midfielder, Welbeck seemingly more of a winger – at least in Sir Alex’s eyes and Chicharito the erstwhile ‘super sub’ is the Pole joining the Reds, such a bad thing? He could be the difference in the Champions League something which may become a priority for Sir Alex next season. Do you want to see the Reds sign Lewandowski?

A fast, tough holding midfielder must be the main priority not another striker. An attacking midfielder is the Team’s second need!

  2. ardimu says:

maybe we need it, but sometimes we need to know sometimes rooney could be in Second Striker or maybe he could be real striker again.
Rotation like rooney or wellbeck maybe was good, they got a new experience. but its better when they played in the real position..

Yes I support the signing Robert Lewandowski, mat hummel, leighton Baines,Kelvin strootman, fellaini and James Rodriguez or c.Ronald.And the sell of nani, valencia, evra,Ashley young and either welbeck or Chicharito.pls Rooney for any reason should not be sold.

Would love to see him join UTD. An if we want the treble again get a midfielder an sign bale then noone will stop us

Completely agree, but people need to understand that Rooney will leave if we are able to sign him. There is too much talk of this midfield role. We need to actually sign a midfilder, and I hope Lewandowski as Rooney replacement.

If Robert Lewandowski would sign for Manchester United it would be an insurance up front, of more regular goals than what they currently produce, which in turn would be an assurance that United would win the league again next season, deservingly.
I think Chelsae, Totenham and Arsenal will be there next season but I think City will fall from stardom possibly chasing the fifth place Euro football slot with Everton. Liverpool will go back to obscurity when their one and only good player, and goal scorer is banned (a most deserving ban for such an idiotic act!).
I then believe that Cardiff will be fighting relegation along with Stoke and Fulham. Southampton and Swansea will be mid-table.

In Response to Williamt’s post, your right. However, I would throw out there the suggestion that Wayne Rooney could possibly be the attacking midefielder we require, and maybe Lewandowski his replacement upfront.
