Sunday’s trip to the Britannia will hopefully give Sir Alex Ferguson’s side the chance to bounce back from the debacle that was the derby day defeat on Monday night.

Despite the United boss’s conclusion that the Reds were somewhat unlucky against City, there’ll be no doubt in Fergie’s mind that the performances have dropped somewhat since the Champions League exit.

A win against Tony Pulis’s men would all but end any lingering title chances Manchester City still harbour and also edge United closer to that record points total. Injury wise the Reds are in pretty good shape, with only Ashley Young and Paul Scholes definite none starters for Sunday. The main question is will Sir Alex persist with Robin Van Persie up front, considering the lack of goals the Dutchman has of late? I think it may just be the perfect time to give RVP a well earned rest, here’s how I see the Reds lining up in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

DDG, Rafael, Rio Ferdinand, Jonny Evans, Patrice Evra, Michael Carrick, Phil Jones, Nani, Shinji Kagawa, Antonio Valencia, Wayne Rooney.

Do you agree? Let us know your predicted United line up:

the moment I saw Valencia in there I lost interest. he should not even be making the bench.that’s how pathetic he’s become.

Have no idea who will play in central defence. Fergie was suggesting in his press conference that Evans was ready and Vidic and Smalling probably weren’t. He may be saving them for West Ham on Wednesday to counter the aerial threat of Andy Carroll.
Anyway hopefully Jones will be freed up for midfield. We desperately need energy and athleticism in that department. None of our wingers are providing anything going forward so he may well do what he did at Newcastle early season and go
Narrow. I sense there is a growing frustration with Rooney which may see him benched.
The big trend for the last 6 -8 weeks has been our inability to score or even make clear chances. For that reason Kagawa may well start as he is a natural finisher. Chicherito has a good goal scoring record against Stoke but not sure he will start.
Cleverley seems to be out of favour after a run of uninspiring displays. Ditto Anderson.
Having said that all of our wingers are off form I think he may pick Valencia for his work rate and defensive cover which allows Rafael to be our most effective attacking wide player.
And of course if Smalling is fit he might go for Him At right back since Stokes only real threat is from set pieces. On the subject of full backs popular Paddy Evra continues to be less than convincing and Buttner did himself no harm at Sunderland so I wouldn’t be surprised to see him play 2mrw or Wednesday.
In any event lets hope it’s a winning selection since anything other than three points will really see the jitters setting in with a difficult game at West Ham to follow.

With very little confidence I predict the following selection.

DDG Rafael Ferdinand Evans Evra Carrick Jones Kagawa Wellbeck RVP Valencia

  8. Mr e says:

Team De Gea, Evra, Rio, Evans, Raphael,Carrick, Cleverley, Powell, Valencia RVP, Little Pea.

  9. Trevor says:

I agree except for Nani and Valencia.
I would rather see Hernandez in place of Valencia and Cleverley in place of Nani.
How many chances does our number 7want. He s not doing what a winger should do so I would rather see somebody capable of at least putting a couple of decent crosses.
As for Nani you can not keep playing him hoping that he might have a decent game
Put Cleverley midfield and Kagawa on the wing

  10. I wish all man utd fans to pray hard for success.
