United’s £25 million bid for Cesc Fabregas has surprised many fans especially coming so soon after the Reds were knocked back in their pursuit of Thiago Alcantara.

Although luring Fabregas away from boyhood club Barcelona, particularly after Thiago’s departure, may seem like a tall order, United’s bid may not be completely pointless.

Reports indicate that the only way a deal could be struck is if Barcelona are willing to sell the former Arsenal skipper and that may not be as remote as first thought.

The Sun notes:

“A Spanish source said: Cesc would only go if Barcelona agreed to sell him.”

“The Barca midfield is looking very crowded for next season and and you wonder how many games Cesc will get.”

“He wants to play in the world cup next Summer and needs to be playing regularly.”

“Arsenal have first refusal on him but he’d prefer a switch to United.”

Barcelona boss Tito Vilanova has moved quickly to dispel any rumours of Fabregas leaving by claiming the midfielder wants to stay at the Nou Camp. It all looks dead in the water, unless the Catalan giants can be pursuaded to part with Fabregas, although one would think £25 million isn’t enough for that to happen.

This is all has a very familiar feeling, cue another Summer of rumours…..

My advise to all manu fans is to ignore wateva speculations u may get frm d media cos manu isn’t gona make any meaningful signing dis transfer window.. Jst yanking our nerves.. Dis is jst anoda case of so close bt yet too far lyk d ronaldinho, kaka, mikel, sjinder, nasri, loucas and off recent thiago sagas.. We r in for a vry long and disapointing season…

We have to be realistic, the team can no longer fund a big signing despite all the money they earn from commercial deals and adverts, because glazers only maintain the club to get riches not glories, i wonder how a midtable club may sanction 10 tranfer deals a summer, while the champions only manage a £1m deal so far! The is obviously short of option at the middle of the park, in all the epl man utd has the lowest number of midfielders, imagine! They always admit defeat when competing with other clubs for a player, ronaldinho, robben, benzema, silva, sniejder, bale, lucas etc and recently thiago, what a shame! Am already loosing faith in this club.
