The same fixture last season saw teenager James Wilson announce himself to the world of football with a well taken brace against Steve Bruce’s men, as caretaker manager Ryan Giggs looked on with smug content. This time round it’s slightly different, United aren’t simply playing for pride, we have a manager we can all believe in and if Wilson does get the nod, it will arguably be on merit, rather than just ‘giving the youngster’s a chance.’
Robin Van Persie’s lack of form – having just 13 touches against Arsenal, means it would actually be something of a surprise if Wilson wasn’t preferred. Radamel Falcao has been training as has Marcos Rojo and both could return to the fold today.
Luke Shaw is out with a knock he picked up at the Emirates while Ander Herrera may have to wait to get the chance that’s been eluding him for several weeks.
Here’s a potential starting XI:
4-3-3: David De Gea, Antonio Valencia, Chris Smalling, Tyler Blackett, Marcos Rojo, Angel Di Maria, Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini, Wayne Rooney, Radamel Falcao, James Wilson
