If you can’t beat ’em join ’em is the often quoted saying which could more or less apply to the vast majority of footballers since, well since football began if we’re honest.
More aptly for United, the saying should now read “if you can’t beat ’em sign ’em” as after years of failing to get close to Barcelona- barring the glorious 2008 Champions League campaign, the Reds have struggled to match the Catalan Giants and are now at the point where it’s not even a realistic priority. Louis Van Gaal is nothing if not ambitious and while it’s obvious United need to get back to challenging for titles, a decent European campaign is something of a necessity for a club of this size.
With all that in mind the ideal signing for the Reds would be a player that served Barcelona so well over recent years and reports indicate Dani Alves could be on his way to Old Trafford.
The Metro goes a step further by claiming the Barca star has already signed some form of agreement with the Reds.
Barcelona are reportedly suspicious that Dani Alves has signed a pre-contract agreement to transfer to Manchester United.
The Catalan giants are concerned that the right-back will depart the club on a free transfer after his contract expires.
Louis van Gaal has made no secret of the fact that he is a big fan of the Brazilian and has tried to push through a move.
And it seems as if he may have been successful in luring Alves to Old Trafford, according to sources in Spain.
At 32 years of age Alves may not be the ideal age for a move to the fast pace of the Premier League but it would be hard to be too downhearted if the Brazilian right back made his way to Manchester this Summer.
