United’s win over League One Sheffield United this weekend did nothing to ease the pressure on Louis Van Gaal as the Reds’ lack of goals and failure to impose themselves on sides at Old Trafford came to the fore once again.
Wayne Rooney’s last minute penalty may have seen the Reds through to the fourth round of the FA Cup but it won’t have placated many of the fans or the media who are still struggling to come to terms with just what the Dutchman’s ‘philosophy’ is and why on earth it’s not translating to more goals for the side.
Van Gaal will face the media at 12pm today for a press conference ahead of the Newcastle game tomorrow and without doubt the questions will turn to the Reds lack of goals. United are currently nine points off the top of the table, in itself not a disaster but with only one win in seven league games and just five goals during that run, it’s time for the manager to explain his thoughts on why his side haven’t struggled to find the net.
