Is sooner rather than later better for the Special One?

After today’s SunSport revelation that Jose Mourinho reckons he will get the United job at the end of next season, it leaves the question open to whether we want, or need the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’

The Sun reported that “The Special One wants to take over as Manchester United boss at the end of next season – and reckons he will get the job.”

Mourinho also believes that “the way will be open for him in the summer of 2012.”

After his treble winning success with Inter last season, it certainly proved that he may indeed be special, maybe not the ‘special one’ but definitely good, and most definitely good enough for United. Just look at how poor Inter have been since he left, first under Rafa Benitez and now under Leonardo.
With regards to taking over at United, I’ve been asking a tricky and debateable question for over a year now.

Would you prefer to have four or five more seasons with Fergie, stay loyal and have some success, with the risk of getting in an average manager after he leaves and going another 10, 15 maybe 20 years of little or no success?

[bet_365 type='generic' size='468'af_code='365_061447']

Or…
Should we let Fergie go now or next season, on a high, and start as fresh, in a new era under Mourinho? Instead of having no success for 10, 15 years we have a continued success and extend our dominance for another decade or two?
We’ve heard over the years that no player is bigger than the club. Instead, should this comment be no one is bigger than the club? Including the manager?

Paul ‘Guvnor’ Ince, Beckham, van Nistelrooy, Keane, have all been shown the door over the years, to prove this statement, but should it apply to the manager as well? To prolong United’s dominance and success, should the main man responsible for all our success leave?
This question might come as a surprise to you all, with us still on track for a treble. But for the long-term foundation of the club I think we should get Mourinho in at the earliest possible opportunity.

I think Mourinho is the only manager in the world that can take over the reins at Old Trafford from Fergie. His CV speaks for itself, Champions League win with Porto, two leagues with Chelsea (the first for how long?) a number of league wins and a treble at Inter, as well as taking Real Madrid to the semi-final of the Champions League this season (the first time in 6 years), and a possible encounter with United in the final.

You could say that we don’t need Mourinho, we’ll get another top class manager instead. Maybe so, but I don’t think any other manager in the world can come in and emulate what Fergie has achieved at the club. Coming to United after Fergie would carry so much stress and pressure, I feel the only man who can take and handle that pressure would be Mourinho, he’s had success where ever he has gone.

i wouldnt midn jose taking over when fergie sys his time over my only concern is whow long will he be at manchester lets face it there isnt a team in the world that comes close to manchester united. so if he does take over it cant be for a couple of years it has tobe for the long term.

I couldn’t have said it better. He isn’t for building the clubs history…just his CV. Thats the only reason I’d prefer Pep to “the special one”.

Huge egos have no place at OT

    In one word: NO!

And thats not because he does not develop youth.
It’s not because he has a poor track record in the transfer market.
It’s not because he does not play football the united way.
It’s not because if his Chelsea past

It’s because he does not stick around.
He stays at a club for 2-3-4 years and then he moves on. And the club he leaves behind has always been worse of then when he came.

He is really good at taking over a good squad and making them play as a team, but he can’t buy and he does not develope youth and for those reasons alone I would say a loud and clear NO!

Could not agree more. Mourinho is a very good team manager but Man Utd is not a team it is a club and Mourinho has shown no desire or ability to manage a club. We need someone imbued with our club ethos or similar – Blanc, Solskjaer, Moyes but Never Mourinho

dont want the f**king rugby manager, utd dont play kick nd follow, or bullish style. Guess utd will loose many fans(me number 1) if he come. Get us better manager when the old titan(super, excellent SAF) leave. Probably he(SAF) will choose another wizard like him. Wish he never retire. LONG ND HEALTHY LIFE FERGIE! Amen!

i think Jose is the one. all Man united fans keep giving out why we dont buy players . Ozil last summer we all wanted him and who got him Jose . when was the last time a youth player came true at united O Shea was the last made . and the reason Jose left Chelsea was cos he was not a load to do is own job . and at Inter he won everything . when he comes to United he will stay for the next 20 years cos he love England so much he did want to leave in the first place

    • RedScot says:

Ozil in fairness did not want to come to the UK Mate. You say Mourhino left Chelsea after a falling out with Abramovich, correct! Why Did he leave Inter Milan, why is he unhappy now at Real Madrid, he leaves a lot of unhappy people behind him, mate.

we dont need someone who will only be with us for a season or two,we need someone who can build players and be fully dedicated to serve the club.

  8. john says:

what about Pep Guardiola, who announced recently that he will step down as coach of Barcelona next year. Not a bad choice

  9. David D says:

Fergie himself will want Mourinho to take over from him because we need a manager with an ego,a winning mentality, ability to protect and make players believe in themselves and a tactical genius. I see no other mangager with all these…

    • RedScot says:

Sir Alex in his own words,I came here(Manchester United) to rebuild a club, not a team!
When has Mourhino achieved that? At nearly every club he has taken over at, excluding Porto, the nucleus of the team was in place.

United have not played football the United way this year but have still ground out result. When I saw the way Jose’s Inter team dealt with Barca I changed my mind about him. I’d welcome him. Who else would you have — David Fricking Moyes of Steve (Mrs Doubtfire) Bruce?
