Jose Mourinho Alex Ferguson

Is sooner rather than later better for the Special One?

After today’s SunSport revelation that Jose Mourinho reckons he will get the United job at the end of next season, it leaves the question open to whether we want, or need the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’

The Sun reported that “The Special One wants to take over as Manchester United boss at the end of next season – and reckons he will get the job.”

Mourinho also believes that “the way will be open for him in the summer of 2012.”

After his treble winning success with Inter last season, it certainly proved that he may indeed be special, maybe not the ‘special one’ but definitely good, and most definitely good enough for United. Just look at how poor Inter have been since he left, first under Rafa Benitez and now under Leonardo.
With regards to taking over at United, I’ve been asking a tricky and debateable question for over a year now.

Would you prefer to have four or five more seasons with Fergie, stay loyal and have some success, with the risk of getting in an average manager after he leaves and going another 10, 15 maybe 20 years of little or no success?

[bet_365 type='generic' size='468'af_code='365_061447']

Or…
Should we let Fergie go now or next season, on a high, and start as fresh, in a new era under Mourinho? Instead of having no success for 10, 15 years we have a continued success and extend our dominance for another decade or two?
We’ve heard over the years that no player is bigger than the club. Instead, should this comment be no one is bigger than the club? Including the manager?

Paul ‘Guvnor’ Ince, Beckham, van Nistelrooy, Keane, have all been shown the door over the years, to prove this statement, but should it apply to the manager as well? To prolong United’s dominance and success, should the main man responsible for all our success leave?
This question might come as a surprise to you all, with us still on track for a treble. But for the long-term foundation of the club I think we should get Mourinho in at the earliest possible opportunity.

I think Mourinho is the only manager in the world that can take over the reins at Old Trafford from Fergie. His CV speaks for itself, Champions League win with Porto, two leagues with Chelsea (the first for how long?) a number of league wins and a treble at Inter, as well as taking Real Madrid to the semi-final of the Champions League this season (the first time in 6 years), and a possible encounter with United in the final.

You could say that we don’t need Mourinho, we’ll get another top class manager instead. Maybe so, but I don’t think any other manager in the world can come in and emulate what Fergie has achieved at the club. Coming to United after Fergie would carry so much stress and pressure, I feel the only man who can take and handle that pressure would be Mourinho, he’s had success where ever he has gone.

I am not sure who that post at 4.45 is aimed at?
We all know United have not played the United way this season, whats your point? You would welcome Mourhino, and you fire off posts all around the net, against the Glazer, makes total sense.
    Think about it eh? 😀

I don’t know man. this debate will continue until the united manager position opens up. i honestly can’t see anyone big enough to step into SAf and on paper mourinho comes closest. there are a lot of aspects about him though that don’t make him a good match. style is a non-issue, united have played ordinary football for past two seasons…no better than what mourinho is playing at real madrid these days. success is great, but we can’t lose our attacking verve, the united way for good :/

You make some good points, one key point that you cannot give Brownie points to Mourhino for his ability to stick the course.Thats the big question for United, do we want a marathon runner or a sprinter, as the next manager. If you picture the finishing line as the end of the race!
His marathon was three years at Chelsea.
      Long live Sir Alex Ferguson.

I would be gutted if defensive minded mourinho ever became united boss, and as for the idea of fergie leaving before his time? No way, just no way.

  4. Mr Red says:

Mr Mourinho want to build dynasty like SAF with his own way, not a lot of pressure to winning all like Chelsea, Inter and Real Madrid. He want the club which can be more patience towards his work, like he said his habitat is England but only 2 club on his target, it is Man United and Arsenal. Mourinho will not leave Man U in short term because he will already complete his Grand Slam during his time at Man U. Beside that, Man U only have 2 champion league title, same like Mourinho. It will good for Man U and for domestc tittle, u also know, he already takes all in short period.. Support mourinho for man U

    • RedScot says:

Who do you support?Man U???? Interesting.
How much did he spend at Chelsea in his first season? What did the previous manager Claudio Ranieri spend who actually created the team in essence for Mourhino to succeed?

Mourinho, NO WAY. No-one is bigger than MAN UTD and he always capture all the attention. Its always Mourinho rather than the club. We have seen it with Chelsea, Inter and even with Real. Blanc, Solskjaer or even King Cantona will be more suitable candidates. May SAF be at MAN UTD for another 20 years. Long live Sir Alex Ferguson.

  6. Millsy says:

I think mourinho is a great manager but I’m not sure he is a man united style manager he is too defensive he would rather win 1-0 than say 3-1 us utd fans love attacking football but I say when sir alex retires let him take over and have sir Ryan giggs as his assistant so when mourinho decides to leave giggs takes over and john about guardiola he is leaving barca because he says 4 years is to long so he would walk away from us in 4 years so we would be in search of another manager then sir alex might have another 5 years in him and these managers might not be avalible

I would like to hear his vision for Utd before making any decisions. If he sees Utd as a vehicle to enhance his reputation and ego, then an absolute NO.

Its like changing a CEO of a company, its all about the vision. Its all about how the CEO views the company.

having said that, i feel that if there was one manager who can take Utd ahead of Liverpool interms of European cups, it would be him.

  8. Anagafo Michael says:

Jose will make a good United Manager. He should not be in a hurry to take over from Sir Alex. The rebuilding process Sir Ferguson has just started will take two or three seasons to hit world class. He should take over after that.

  9. SEO says:

If Mourinho can change his ‘media style’ – he’s welcomed.

    • RedScot says:

Just his media style and its all sorted then?I think a leopard never changes hits spots!

  10. mufcdreligion says:

i think giggs will get the job when fergie calls it a day he’s been around fergie since hes 13 hes knows the club inside out he would get the respect of any player in the world i think he’d play serious football and bring through youth players cause we have a few seriously talented young fella’s at the club and giggs would get time off the fans he wudnt be under the same pressure as someone coming in

    • RedScot says:

Ha Ha, my sorta thinking exactly, someone with a noticeable link to the club.
As you highlight he would be offered time! Maybe in tandem with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
I am sure people in here dont know how to react to others posts and press the reply button.:D
