Charlie Adam could come to Manchester United

"Is this the way to a trophy laden career?"

David Yaffe-Bellany casts his eye over four potential United target’s he’d rather not see come to Old Trafford.

1. Ashley Young- The new face of the English national team, Ashley Young has been linked to United for quite some time now. The English winner was impressive last season for Aston Villa, and looks to have the scoring touch when playing for England. However, at a rumored seventeen million pounds, Young’s price tag is overinflated especially as I don’t see him adding anything to the United squad.

Arguably, United’s strongest department last year was out wide, Nani finally made the breakthrough we had all been waiting for, and Valencia was crucial to our successful run in after he returned from injury. Park was fantastic for the first half of the season, and despite spending most of the winter away from the team, he still managed to make a telling impression come the final few games. Fergie would be wise to stay well away from Young, he isn’t needed at the moment, and his signing would jeopardise Nani’s future at the club.

2. Charlie Adam- The supposed”master of the long pass,” Charlie Adam was one of the stars of the 2010/11 Premier League season. However, his mid season slump was part of the reason for Blackpool’s relegation, Adam was unable to stay consistently good for the duration of the thirty-eight game marathon. Priced at around eight million pounds, Fergie would get what he payed for in Adam, a poor man’s alternative to Modric and Sneijder. Despite pulling out several stunning eighty yard passes a game, Adam is wont to giving the ball away in dangerous areas of the field, and the Scotsman is too often sloppy while inside his own penalty box. I remember an ill advised header back against Birmingham at St. Andrews being indicative Adam’s defensive play, if he played for United, I know I would be absolutely terrified every time he received the ball inside our half.

3. David De Gea- From the moment Van Der Sar made clear his intention to retire at the end of the season, I made clear my feelings that an experienced pro needed to take over in goal. Players like Julio Cesar, Pepe Reina and Manuel Neuer have all played in the Champions League, as well as in a schmorghesbord of major international tournaments. Anyone of those three would have been ideal choices to step into VDS’ boots, but yet, Ferguson seems set to go with youth in the form of fledgling stopper De Gea. While De Gea has produced some stunning, highlight reel moments at Atletico, he has dropped some absolute clangers as well. Moreover, being a young player I doubt his ability to handle the pressure of the Manchester Untied number one jersey, a shirt filled in the past by legends like Van Der Sar and Schmeichel. Personally, I would have preferred for De Gea to come in as number two, so as to allow for a couple years of growing before he is thrown into the spotlight.

4. Sergio Aguero- Since seeing him play for the first time, the word “overrated” has been the first to come into my mind when considering Argentinean “sensation” Sergio Aguero. After handing in a transfer request, Aguero is certain to move on this summer, and I’m afraid that Fergie might consider offering up a large sum of money for his services. Aguero lacks consistency and his place on the fringes of the Argentinean national squad belies his supposed title as one of the World’s best players. Instead of wasting money on him now, United would do well to wait until his son is of an appropriate age, Maradona’s grandson could turn out to be just the man we need…

united must avoid to buy useless player.we need fantastic midfield next season

  2. Weez says:

De Gea is a raisk, but then is any GK. We have signed more established, proven GK’s in the passed, Bartez didn’t really work out did it?

Aguero could be a good signing (for Real) but dont think he fits with what we need.

Young will push Nani and Valencia more than Obertan (surely to be sold) or Bebe (still young)

Adam would be an awesome signing…

…for the Dippers. Clearly over-hyped & not a top 4 player as the red tops would have us believe. He has the talent to be in the Premiership but is nothing more than a mid-table club’s player. I expect someone like Villa to take him on, or pray God, that historic dinosaur at the other end of East Lancs Road.

Look young was the best player for England at the weekend he is a brilliant set piece deliver and he will be great signing. I bet all u people said Valencia was a bad idea? Look at Valencia now he is basically a first teamer. Also we don’t need to sell Nani cuz even though he annoys me with sum of his selfish play he can do eat some others can and that is using both feet. So I reckon Fergie will move Nani to a more advancing roll where he can trouble defences most.
    Also really pleased with jones.

i have a mixed reaction to the article

    1) Young – i agree to me his not shone that bright but then again maybe fergie knows something we dont.

    2) Adam- i would sign him but as a squad player and nothing more, with gibson and scholes leaving theres a gap. but given it would shut the door to a few of our home grown talents, so i would probably not make the move.

    3) De Gea – i am in the same boat, Neuer was my pick but he didnt want to move up in the world and wanted to stay in germany. i have the same reservations, also the interview on ssn, made him look unsure of himself plus he called himself a quiet keeper but we need a loud one.
the main problem with him is the role he fills as we cant sign 2 no.1s. so unless we have an older keeper in our sights to back him up its a very big risk.

    4) Aguero – very talented but expensive and he would offer anything to our current frontline.
Higuain is been touted at £15m and would offer much better value.

phil jones could have been signed to slot in right back as back up if as believed sunderland have bid for wes brown and oshea
in the wings one important fact were missing is the da silva twins CAN play there as cover for valencia park and nani. young WILL be a mistake.
plus cleverly can not only play center mid he also plays out on the wings (played qutie a few games left wing for wigan).

What a bizarre article. You are gonna have a hard time being a United fan, seeing as we ARE gonna sign De Gea and Young, two great signings. Young will be a more consistant performer than Nani and De Gea will be a United legend for the next 18 years. Whatever your opinions about who we should or should not sign you know nothing compared to the man who has just bagged his twelfth premiership title, and it shows

Read a little closer, and you will realize that actually neither the De Gea signing nor the Young purchase are written off as deals that shouldn’t happen.

My main objection to the potential Young deal is that it would be a large proportion of our transfer kitty spent in an area which does not need reinforcement as much as some others. Also, as another comment mentioned, Nani out and Young in would be a sideways step, Young as shown nothing as yet which indicates he would be a more consistent replacement to the players’ player of the year.

As far as De Gea, I thought I made it clear in the article that I am not totally against him joining the club, merely that I think he isn’t quite ready yet.

P.S. Do any of us really know as much as Sir Alex Ferguson? XD

Fully agree. I wish these guys would re-publish these kind of articles 12 months later. Boy would they have some words to chew. I see the backtracking has already started below!! Pathetic.

Ashley Young is class,Giggsy and Valencia need cover, the lad can play and cross, yes cross a bloody ball, Dea Gea,not good, too small and will get battered in the Prem, Stekelenburg is the man, VDS says so folks,we need midfielders ,and to sell the useless Anderson to citeh for 30 mill.

    • McD says:

@DIABLO…….dude, seriously, what are you smoking andwhere can i get some? At 6ft 4, De Gea is too small? Really? And at 20 had time to still grow further and fill out with gym work and as he matures. So lets sign Stekelenburg who is 6ft 5, one inch taller, is big enough?? And Anderson is useless? This is the Anderson who at 17, destroyed Celtic and Arsenal while Porto? The same Anderson “who shits on Fabregas” and up until he got injured was our best player for a section of our season? So im guessing you are one of these fans who actually doesnt watch football at all, listens to Jamie Redknapp’s opinions, reads the red top rags, believes everything he reads and cant actually sit down and WATCH players and formulate your own opinion!! Im looking forward toreading your future comments in a year about how De Gea is the bestestest goalie in the world ever and how you have all your Man Utd stickers on your favourite lunchbox!! You total and utter twat

I see Young bringing a solid balance to our wings. He has speed, defensive qualities and attacking skills. If you are happy with Valencia then I really think you will be even more happy with young as he will prove to be a better winger for us than Valencia and believe me I rate Valencia very highly even though his defensive side can be sometimes shoddy.
With Nani getting the exit door this summer, our friend Ashley is much needed.

what idiot made this … all 4 fantastic players and would be a good signing for any team in the world.
plus you will be getting a shock when young and de gea come
