Charlie Adam could come to Manchester United

"Is this the way to a trophy laden career?"

David Yaffe-Bellany casts his eye over four potential United target’s he’d rather not see come to Old Trafford.

1. Ashley Young- The new face of the English national team, Ashley Young has been linked to United for quite some time now. The English winner was impressive last season for Aston Villa, and looks to have the scoring touch when playing for England. However, at a rumored seventeen million pounds, Young’s price tag is overinflated especially as I don’t see him adding anything to the United squad.

Arguably, United’s strongest department last year was out wide, Nani finally made the breakthrough we had all been waiting for, and Valencia was crucial to our successful run in after he returned from injury. Park was fantastic for the first half of the season, and despite spending most of the winter away from the team, he still managed to make a telling impression come the final few games. Fergie would be wise to stay well away from Young, he isn’t needed at the moment, and his signing would jeopardise Nani’s future at the club.

2. Charlie Adam- The supposed”master of the long pass,” Charlie Adam was one of the stars of the 2010/11 Premier League season. However, his mid season slump was part of the reason for Blackpool’s relegation, Adam was unable to stay consistently good for the duration of the thirty-eight game marathon. Priced at around eight million pounds, Fergie would get what he payed for in Adam, a poor man’s alternative to Modric and Sneijder. Despite pulling out several stunning eighty yard passes a game, Adam is wont to giving the ball away in dangerous areas of the field, and the Scotsman is too often sloppy while inside his own penalty box. I remember an ill advised header back against Birmingham at St. Andrews being indicative Adam’s defensive play, if he played for United, I know I would be absolutely terrified every time he received the ball inside our half.

3. David De Gea- From the moment Van Der Sar made clear his intention to retire at the end of the season, I made clear my feelings that an experienced pro needed to take over in goal. Players like Julio Cesar, Pepe Reina and Manuel Neuer have all played in the Champions League, as well as in a schmorghesbord of major international tournaments. Anyone of those three would have been ideal choices to step into VDS’ boots, but yet, Ferguson seems set to go with youth in the form of fledgling stopper De Gea. While De Gea has produced some stunning, highlight reel moments at Atletico, he has dropped some absolute clangers as well. Moreover, being a young player I doubt his ability to handle the pressure of the Manchester Untied number one jersey, a shirt filled in the past by legends like Van Der Sar and Schmeichel. Personally, I would have preferred for De Gea to come in as number two, so as to allow for a couple years of growing before he is thrown into the spotlight.

4. Sergio Aguero- Since seeing him play for the first time, the word “overrated” has been the first to come into my mind when considering Argentinean “sensation” Sergio Aguero. After handing in a transfer request, Aguero is certain to move on this summer, and I’m afraid that Fergie might consider offering up a large sum of money for his services. Aguero lacks consistency and his place on the fringes of the Argentinean national squad belies his supposed title as one of the World’s best players. Instead of wasting money on him now, United would do well to wait until his son is of an appropriate age, Maradona’s grandson could turn out to be just the man we need…

Dropped the ball allowing this article to be posted…….

The de Gea part was especially rubbish. The 3 keepers that were mentioned were either out of reach (Neuer) or happy where they are (Riener and Ceasar)

Id love to see alexis sanchez in a united shirt. As for Aguero we dont need him as we have rooney, hernandez, berbatov, welbeck, owen, macheda and diouf. Alot of strikers lol, anywag agueros good and all but for his price, no thanks. As for young, hes good but would rather (once again have sanchez). Id keep nani and play him as a supporting striker. He is the only player who has great a dribbling ability. Id sign either gourcuff, sneijder or modric. If only we signed ozil last season. Anyway lets not forget the youth coming in. Id even consider buying hulk because he has pace, and strength and skill

You must be mad! You’d turn town Ashkey Young, David De Gea and Sergio Aguero? It’s a good job Fergie is manager, and not you.

I do, however, agree wholeheartedly about Charlie Adam.

We need to be avoiding this guy, if nothing else.

    Sorry,
I completely disagree with 2 of your 4 suggestions.

Ashely Young: His craft is required in the team. There were a number of occasions in the league last year where we didn’t know if the next goal was coming – particulary in the games drawn/lost. Nani and Valencia play better when they are both competing for the spot on the same flank. Having them on either side poses no real threat to each player – Park is energetic (highly rated) but not naturally wide. Giggs is now better suited infield.

De Gea, I’ve seen the young boy play and I think he can be groomed to the shoes of Peter the Great and VDS. We also need a goal keeper who is used to the trickery of the spanish in front of goal – this is where we are failing in Europe. Look at the fist goal conceded in the final; how did Pedro know to pass the ball into the net?

Charlie Adams is not a United player in my view, nor Aguero. Both good players, but not for united.

Don’t see De Gea coming?? .. Should have gone to Specsavers…

Im sorry but to say that De Gae shouldnt be signed simply because he made some bloopers is ridiculous. Hes perfect for us! The guy’s in his early 20’s very young, hes been in 2 european competitions and has performed in these competitions.

I dont know why ur such a huge nani fan, the guy blows hot and cold, Young to me is the better player, he has more trickery and more speed. Ok his attacking instinct isnt the best, but when he’s playing with the best in the business at Man Utd he can only improve. nani’s had bwt 4 seasons at old trafford now, and tbh the guy looks decent decent, not fantastic. We dont do decent at Man Utd, admittedly we did this season, but that was an exception.

I personally think we should hold our horses here with this big midfield revolution people are planning. Our academy is bringing in some real gems: King (he can also play as a winger as well as his normal forward role), Morrison (provided he doesnt get himslef into any more trouble!), Progba and Tunicliffe look like real big prospects. Lets not forget we got welbeck returning from loan and Macheda. We gta nurture this talent into the team along with the established players such as Rooney, Vidic, Ferdinand etc to add that bit of experience these players need to have in their team.

We had our best years with the academy, and so are barca atm. The academy is defo the best way to go to build a great team.

David Yaffe-Bellany? Never heard of you, mate. However, Alex Ferguson is certainly a name I know. A household name around the world… known for being one of the most decorated managers in the history of the sport, and known for signing the right people. Yes, I suppose you will trot out Djemba Djemba or Bebe… snore, but more often than not he gets the right people. Winning people. So just where exactly do you get off trying to second guess him?
