Owen celebrates with Macheda

United's Summer tour of the US has been a huge success on and off the pitch

United are wiping the floor with noisy neighbours City when it comes to the popularity of both clubs’ Summer US tours according to reports.

While the Reds have seen record numbers attending their matches in the states, our less successful Blue counterparts have enjoyed the sort of crowds you’d get for a League One clash.

The Manchester Evening News notes:

David Beckham insists there is only one team in Manchester – and it is a view that appears to be echoed in his adopted homeland.

United and City have launched a two-pronged assault in the US and Canada, with both sides in the middle of pre-season tours across the Atlantic.

But it is Sir Alex Ferguson’s Premier League champions who have captured the attention of US audiences so far – if attendances and media coverage are anything to go by.

A total of 128,575 fans have turned up to see United’s opening two games against New England Revolution and the Seattle Sounders.

But City managed to get only 35,325 through the gates for their clashes with Club America and the Canadian side Vancouver Whitecaps.

Ferguson’s men have also received greater coverage in the US media.

The Wall Street Journal has documented United’s tour since they’ve arrived, but have been quiet on Mancini’s men.

With Barcelona and Real Madrid also taking part in matches in the US this Summer, it’s obvious clubs have realised the vast potetntial of the US markets.

I think in future City should focus on the potential of Stockport market and leave the US to the big clubs.

Laughing now. That was your biggest game in decades. It wasn’t even United’s biggest game that week!

You won our 3rd priority cup and you think you’ve arrived. Hilarious.

But you know what is missing? I really miss those jibes you used to sling about ‘United buying their success’. Haven’t heard one of those for a few years.

what was your biggest game that week ? you surely aren’t counting the spanking barca gave you are you ? that wasn’t a big game it was you lot turning up so you could claim the runners up cheque (every little helps). surprised ol BF didn’t give the reservews a run out so he could claim the old men in the first team would’ve won if they could have got out of the ice bath for the match.

No, no, silly; the Barca game was much later. No, if you look it up in your football album next Christmas you’ll see we played and eliminated Chelsea in the Champions League. Like I said, the City game wasn’t our biggest that week but it was your game of the current century.

For the record I think city will almost certainly add to it’s haul of a trophy in the seasons ahead. Eventually you’ll buy your way in. But you’ll never be an elite club, you totally lack the class to be much more than Chav City.

Well done United! You are also more popular than us in Ireland and most of Asia. It seems the only place we are more popular is where it matters most … in Manchester!

United the luckiest club in the world raking in all that money when sky the prem and champs league came along just because they happened to be the best team at the time

It has allowed them to create an a dispropotional gap betweem themselves and the rest of the prem since the early 1990s.

But that gap is closing and not just from City and Chelsea. Uniteds days are numbered, dead men walking.

No one will dominate the next 20 years like United did the last least of all United.

    • “…. just because they happened to be the best team at the time”

Says it all really. United made money because they had a decent manager and were successful, not because some rich arabs decided to make them their plaything.

City have always been a joke and its taking some serious amounts of money to get any success – just dont kid yourselves that its been deserved in the slightest.

The reason that the Wall Street journal is watching Utd daily, is to make sure all the dodgy deals and debts they have stacking up are safe.

The only reason they would need to approach City is for a ‘stimulus package’

I love reading the comments from City fans. Bloody he’ll, guys this is a United blog; you read it and you’ll get upset. Duh!

As the owners to buy you a blog of your own.

    Buy some supporters.

Get used to the notion that you’re a tier two club on a lucky streak.

Most fun I’v had in days. United supporters are SO funny. Last year City and United wiped the floor with everyone (bar Barcelona). This may be radical but maybe this is good for the North West and that should be positive for Blues and Reds. Why don’t ya grow up and enjoy our Northern success stories. It aint to difficult to leave the playground and grow try, try it?
