More money heading the Glazers way?

United could find themselves being the next pawn in the ‘Qatari world domination of football’ as soon as next week if reports are to be believed.

The Mirror notes:

Manchester United are a £1.5billion-plus target for a new takeover bid by the Qatari royal family.

Top Middle East sources revealed last night that an official approach to the Glazer family is being made and a deal could even be clinched by next week.

The American owners – who have angered fans by running one of the world’s top clubs in their own controversial way – could be open to doing business, despite past refusals.

The super-rich Qataris think United is a good deal – even at the profit it would make for the current rulers and other shareholders.

Qatar has already won the right to host the World Cup finals in 2022 and some of their wealthy elite have bought into top European projects at Spanish club Malaga and French giants Paris St Germain.

Now United is the prize – although the exact identity of the buyer is being kept under wraps.

The Mirror understands that a delegation from the Qatari royal family, headed by Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, will be in Manchester on Monday in a bid to conclude the deal.

Any deal which sees the Glazers finally leave Old Trafford would be welcomed by the vast majority of Reds, while one of the richest families in the world pumping money into the club should hardly be a bad thing.

With United possessing a young vibrant squad, a huge cash injection is arguably not needed, although it could give Sir Alex’s successor a big help when the time finally does come for someone to take over the Old Trafford hot seat.

While am the biggest Glazer hater the only issue I have is that we all know that Sir Alex the head at United and whatever he says goes will the quataris be ok with that or will they want to put their own stamp on the team and undermine Sir Alex but if they are willing to back Sir Alex and clear the debt then am ok

Not even bill gates can undermine sir Alex should he buy man united because they all know that money can not buy you the respect and stability Sir Alex provides.Just imagine a great coach like Sir Alex with money to burn?.Even Barcelona can not challenge that.

Few times a year the newspapers recirculate stories about man u being sold, and they never come to fruition. The Glazers aren’t selling man u, get used to it.

i do hope this comes to fruition and i also wish the plastic on here would stop calling united man u, its man united. the man u comes from the scouser term for united ” manure” so come on get with it..united or man united

This has been said before, I’ll believe it when something actually happens.

As much as I hate the glazers, I’d rather united be stuck in debt then have billions like Chelsea and City.

Fergie makes united who we are, not money.

Personally, I don’t think Manu need the money, in my eyes, things are running smoothly at the club and we have the money to buy players. Although I don’t know what goes on behind closed doors.

I think I’ll be the only 1 of a select few that doesn’t want the club to be sold to the qatari’s.

As an English club, it should be owned by true English Manu fans, and not some foreigners who want to make some money off of us.

That’s my view and Iam probably the only 1 who thinks this way.

There are a lot of good points about SAF here and his stewardship of the club . However , The Glazers are not going to sell its a cash cow to them . if we manage to dominate this season our value will double. easy money for the grasping yanks . Our best wish is that they pay down the debt and give us the fan base no reason to critise them .

If the flotation in Singapore goes badly and has to be withdrawn because they can’t raise the money they want then I can see the Glazers thinking about selling privately. It’s no good if the club doubles in value in their minds but investors don’t agree with them!

This story has had more revivals than Status Quo.

  9. Callum says:

Although we would have huge ammounts of money to buy the best players we already make enough money a year but it’s taken out the club by the glazers! Also if we just went and bought all the best players we would lose our excellent team spirit with these mercenaries. This would also stop the development of our homegrown or young players which is currently working so well and what manchester united is all about

really, Man utd should never be owned by the fans in my views, it never have in the past and it hopefully continue that why.

I dont want some clueless fans, like must, making stupid decisions that messes up the club from inside, im quite happy witht he club being owned by business men who know what their doing.

Real utd fans are quite happy with the way the club is run (just not who the owners are), with Sir Alex, Sir Bobby and Gill havng major says in everythink Utd…..when the debt in finally rid of (prob by the end of the flotation in singapore), Utd will be fully strong again with unmatchable funds avaiable.
