Troubled, gifted, mercurial, idiot, genius, the amount of adjectives used to describe the ‘skilful’ Ravel Morrison could fill several books, such is the talent, yet seemingly destructive temperament of the youngster.
According to reports United have now had enough of waiting to see whether the Wythenshawe born lad will ‘sort his head out’ and have finally decided to get rid of him.
The Telegraph notes:
Newcastle United have had an initial bid for Ravel Morrison rejected after Manchester United reluctantly put their hugely talented 18 year-old up for sale.
Morrison’s contract expires in the summer and, having lost patience with his repeated truancy from training, Manchester United are looking to secure a sale during this transfer window.
Newcastle have made the first bid – in the region of £500,000 – which United turned down last weekend.
United are seeking a higher fee as well as a clause that would give them a significant percentage of any future sale.
As Morrison is still only 18, if he moved within England in the summer his transfer fee would be set by a tribunal, an unpredictable situation which United want to avoid.
While there had been a preliminary discussion about a new contract for Morrison at Old Trafford earlier this season, the player has not yet received an official offer in writing and his representatives were given permission to look for a new club this month.
Although it’s always difficult to know whether to trust any publication in this country, the Telegraph is sully one of the more reliable papers.
Rumours that Morrison is set to leave haven’t been helped by the fact the club’s own website republished stories of his reported imminent departure in its ‘what the papers say’ section.
Morrison himself tweeted: “No contract offer to talk about” in response to stories that he’d rejected United’s contract offer.
There was further conjecture surrounding Morrison’s future when Rio Ferdinand tweeted: Certain kids need their heads banging, they don’t see what they got within reach, if only they FOCUSED 100%. Fix up, Make It Count.
which many people believed to be aimed at the United youngster.
As per usual with United transfer stories nothing is guaranteed and until we hear from Sir Alex Ferguson that Morrison is definitely on his way, its hard to take anything as gospel.
There certainly seems to be the feeling amongst most Reds that time may have finally run out for such a ‘prodigious’ talent, although I like many United fans who’ve seen his talents, will be hoping, almost against hope that he’s given one last chance.
As I understand it there is no contract offer yet and nor will there be until February, when his probation period expires. The club didn’t want to offer him a contract before this time in case he broke the law again and got locked up. Just be patient and see what happens. Newspapers make shit up when there’s no real news.
