Suddenly Croatia's games will look a lot more interesting to Reds

United have tabled a bid for Spurs playmaker Luka Modric according to the Sun’s Neil Custis, who claims the North Londoners are ready to sell one of their prized assets.

The Sun notes:

Boss Alex Ferguson has offered Tottenham a £25million fee, rising to £30m based on appearances and success.

Modric, 26, will be handed a four-year deal worth £26m.

His wages of £125,000 a week will put him among the big earners at Old Trafford.

Modric has kept up to date with talks while at Euro 2012 with Croatia and will seal the move on his return.

This will be music to many United fans ears- if it turns out to be true, which admittedly is a big ‘if’, as many see the Croatian as the only real contender to take over from Paul Scholes.

The fee being quoted seems realistic without being insulting to Spurs nor over-the-top for a player with very little re-sale value should he complete three of his four year contract.

My only concern with this deal -again should it be true- is that it could spell the end for Tom Cleverley, a player who at the beginning of last season, looked destined to take United to another level.

Although most fans would rather see Modric over Cleverley, I still can’t help but feel diminutive young Yorkshireman may still have a bright future at Old Trafford if he can just avoid serious injury.

All this is pure conjecture of course as there’s no evidence yet that the Sun’s story is even true, but if you want you  can read it in full here:

The other point is it depends on what Luka was offered to keep him happy last season ?
No CL this one and the way Chelsea , United and City who have not revealed their hand yet are ramping up let alone the Gooners . Could be Arry is looking cash now to get in the market . Just a thought .

Spurs to accept 25 mil…really, from the team that paid 30.2 mil for berba. Offer the 40 and have him. Really, he is a good player not a great player, maybe he will become one like berba has, at the use to be a big team, United. If he was that good City would simply offer double

A lot has changed since last season, man city have firmly planted power back with players. Wouldn’t be surprised to see modric leaves, not

Seriously disappointing some of the language being used on here by those posting. I was under the impression that we were more advanced society and were aware that words like spastic were no longer used in this context. Shame on you.

Also Manure is an extremely offensive term for United supporters, and refers to one of the darkest times in our clubs history. I would have thought given some of the chants which the Arsenal fans sing towards the Spurs fans would have made you think however.

In all liklihood this will not happen so I would chill out.

Utter rubbish! If you think Levy will roll over for “Old Red Nose” when Modric still has 4 years left on his contract then you are seriously misjudging the man. He turned down 40 million from the Chavs last year and told Modders he could play in the reserves. Thanks to the Glazers you don’t have that kind of money available to spend on a player anyway. On another topic, why does your blog plagiarise an anthem for its title, “The Red Flag”, that the Chavs originally co-opted as “The Blue Flag” and were the first English football team to popularise it as a football anthem? (I am fully aware of the songs political roots). On the same theme why does your team play “Glory Glory (Man Utd) Hallelujah” at Old Trafford, when anyone with any concept of English football history knows it was directly stolen from us, who have been using it since the 1960’s? Is there no-one up there in plastic Mancs land who has the wit and originality to pen their own anthems?!

thats a bit ironic isnt it? spurs fan having a pop at united fans when you’ve only got 3 songs yourselves and regularly get outsung by shit fanbases like chelsea and arsenal. come back and call us plastic when you get 40,000 a week despite being in the second tier.

      • matt says:

Yes, we may only have 3 original songs, but that’s 3 more than you lot! Also I have never known us to be outsung by Chelsea or especially Arsenal, except maybe when we were on the end of a hammering from them (which has been known!) Yes, Utd did get great support during their one season in the old second division, but actually we got close to 40,000 average attendance also, when relegated under similar circumstances. I am not disputing that you are the best supported team in the EPL nor that you don’t also have a loyal Manchester fan base. The plastic Mancs joke referred to the hangers-on, prawn sandwich brigade etc, not the die-hard fan. The gibe about the lack of original songs though remains true!

I think £22mill for a player who will have no resellable value in four years time, for a player who does no want to play for his present club and his heart will not be in it and a player whoes stats does not warrant £30mill is pretty much bang on. Levy made a huge mistake not selling him last year but must now admit his mistake and take the money and run.

    • wiuru says:

Im with you on this , remember how long levy held on to the Berb in the transfer window , so long he couldnt even use the money to replace him . Still the spuds think he is a business man ,so what would we know lol .

Hey Red Rag flying High, if you seriously think Daniel Levy will sell youse northern kiddie fiddlers Luka for 25m then you is on crack mo fo. Ba ha fucken ha.

  9. You are welcome to manchester united oh luka modric

So just because some journalist says we’ve put in a bid, that means he’s “set” to join us?

I seriously doubt we are going after Modric. Or Sneijder. Or that we put in a bid for Hazard. It’s just lazy journalists linking us with players who we are known to be interested in.

All the above mentioned players are too expensive and overhyped. There are so many better value alternatives out there.
