Do I need to point out it wasn't a defeat?

Daily Express take the De Gea criticism a bit far

It Seems with the general media clamour to blame United’s young goalkeeper David De Gea for the draw against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane, some of them are getting a tad carried away. I’m no mathematician but I’m pretty sure when your team scores the same amount of goals as the opposition in a Premier League game of association football then that’s classed as a draw and not a ‘defeat’.

I understand the fact that a defeat would be more dramatic but surely even the most ambitious journalist cannot expect United fans- or the general public – not to notice that the Reds didn’t actually lose. It seems the zeal to chastise De Gea has now gotten so great newspapers are willing to re-write history to do so. Not since the ‘We Won 1-1″ headline of the New York Post following the USA national sides draw with England can I remember such an erroneous headline.

Even the Great Dane made mistakes during his early times @ Utd. The lad saved a couple to keep us in the game.

  2. Reno says:

It’s not entirely fair to just put the whole microscope on De Gea. When a goal is conceded, it’s a collective responsibility from the defense and the goalkeeper. It’s documented that De Gea is weak when it comes to catching crosses but if wasn’t for his shot stopping ability, we would be on the sorry side at Spurs on Sunday.

  3. Red Rupert says:

I think he has the makings of a decent keeper but even if we excuse him for not punching the ball away properly vs Spurs and not clearing to safety vs Liverpool, he previously pushed the ball directly out to Michu at Swansea and did likewise the week after. he needs to sort it out and get a bit more assertive. keepers are pretty well protected these days so he really has no excuse.

  4. Eembee says:

Why is this always happening to foreigners. De Gea made couple of saves during d match and actually punched d ball but unfortunately to a spurs player. English media is to harsh on dat boy, as if their young keepers are in anyway better. Whether u like it or not, he is still d best young goal keeper in premier league

  5. Red Rupert says:

…..but yes, they really have got themseves in a bit of a lather over it and they’re on his case all the time whereas Reina, Hart and lesser keepers have been routinely making errors and of course, it never rates a mention. A bad news United story sells papers to the ABU nation.

  6. Michael says:

Media is a conglomeration of United bashers, so it’s no surprise they want to blame one measly mistake from a fantastic young keeper, without whom the score would be much more dramatic! This young man saved a double-deflected shot with his shin! WITH HIS SHIN, YOU SHYTES! I’ve seen Joe Hart, England’s beloved wall, let a goal go through his arm pits! MORE THAN ONCE INFACT! This kid is going to be great! It’s only a matter of time and patience! And it depends on which club is willing to give him this!

I’m more peeved with particular players out there who would’ve done better with their defensive duties! Cleverley, in particular was non-existent in both defence and attack! All he does these days is drift between markers where its’ impossible for him to receive a pass, and even if he gets the pass, he just passes it backwards, mainly because he has so many markers on him! He seems confused like he doesn’t know what his role IS in the squad! Games with Anderson average more goals per game ratio for the team than Cleverley’s!

Another player who’s just becoming surplus is Antonio Valencia! Never thought this day would come as soon as it did! United’s barely gotten two decent seasons out of this guy and already he’s worn out! Luckily we have Nani back and Young is fit again, and there’s always Giggs to save the day! If he’s tired, give him a week’s break to Dubai or something like Nani or Rooney or Hernandez when they were underperforming! It won’t be different from him actually being in the squad at this moment in time because the way he’s playing, he might at as well be on vacation!!

All in all, the final delivery on Sunday was league two type of play! A complete waste of chances! Why work so hard to get the ball into the opposition box then just give them back the possession!! It’s unfathomable! Sir Alex is doing a fantastic job unearthing diamonds, but they have to realize they ARE diamonds in the world BEST diamond mine, otherwise they’ll just be thrown out to the second rate diamond shops! There’s no space or place for complacency in Manchester United, if you can’t handle that pack up in go to the English Average League, this is the PREMIER LEAGUE! That actually means something!!

  7. Prince Evans says:

De Gea is blameless! So stop all these trash

  8. Benny says:

Gary is a unt legend we all agree but for crying out loud, had it not been De Gea we could have lost against spurs..so why wont Gary shut the fuck up afterall both the great Dane and van dar Sar both made mistakes in the first and second seasons with utd.

  9. trevor from Northwich says:

Did you notice Vidic going for the same ball and pushing DeGea then pushed by a Spurs forward stopping a clean punch. Vidic fault

  10. markyboy says:

Neville was bang out of order. This de gea bashing is a joke.A caller on mutv last night even suggested it might be the colour of his jersey its too green.Hahahaha.One thing I will say is nobody seems to stop and think about the goalkeeper coach steele.I think the great dane should coach the keepers.
