Super Sunday, certainly lived up to its billing as Manchester did the double over North London, with City beating Spurs 3-2 at Eastlands and United beating Arsenal 2-1 at the Emirates.

In the early kick off City were 2-0 up against Spurs before the Londoners came back to make it 2-2 however, there was some controversy.

Joleon Lescott appeared to smash his forearm into Younus Kaboul’s face, while Mario Balotelli seemed to stamp on Scott Parker’s head.

To compound Spurs’ misery Balotelli then went  on to score the penalty which won the game for City.

The question on everyone’s lips- not least us Reds, was ‘should Lescott and Balotelli have been sent off?

‘Arry Redknapp certainly thought the young Italian should’ve been sent off , the Spurs manager told Sky Sports:

“It looked like a penalty, I’ve not seen a replay – but the boy who scored the penalty shouldn’t have been on the pitch,” Redknapp said.

“He kicked Scott Parker in the head. He does it a lot, he backheeled him in the face and cut his head. No one can make excuses that he didn’t do it, anyone can see he did do it.”

It’s decisions like today that can win or lose titles, although its only January, if City do prevail, then we may look back at thsee decisions as being seminal.

Were Lescott and Balotelli lucky? Have a look at these pics and make your own mind up.

Leaving aside for one moment the question of Balotelli’s intent, and the question of which Manchester side has the greater penchant for gloves-off thuggery, don’t you find the title of this article faintly ridiculous? It’s still January for crying out loud, and there’s a hell of a lot water to go under the bridge before titles get handed out. And as a life-long (i.e. long-suffering) City fan I certainly won’t be talking about being champions until said eventuality actually materialises – and not a second sooner!

  2. It’s a clear stamp by Balotelli. Nevertheless, if Defoe scores and makes it 3 – 2, we probably wouldn’t care as much. Great game of football when all is said and done. COYS

    couldn’t agree more!

I fully expect City to miss out this year (we expect this!!!!) but it would be nice if the media would give a bit of credit for all the good football the team have played this year which is what its really about. Entertaining the fans rather than looking for reasons to torpedo a very good side. United are also a very good side by the way so why not focus on what was also a very good win yesterday rather than on City? Before you say I should too (!!), I only ended up on here from a Man City NewsNow web page so purely accidental and only because you are writing about City rather than your own club.

Stupid headline. Stupid argument. City fan and I think Balotelli should have been carded. I dont think his 1st yellow was a card. But as it happens the ref didnt give it. Now go back a few weeks ago when Kompany was sent off and SUSPENDED for what everybody but utd deemed nothing. Some say it wasn’t even a foul let alone a card. DID THAT DECISION HAND THE TITLE TO YOU PACK OF MOANING FUCKS?

If you watch Mario in slow motion, it does look worse than it was. Watch it at full speed and there is no way he could have deliberately done that in the fraction of a second that it happened.
I like Spurs and didn’t even mind when we lent you Ade. I would like to see him play for us again as he is a great striker. Just don’t blame Mario for something that he was not guilty of. I hope you qualify for Europe, I hope you finish above United and I am not bitter to you in any way.

They were nasty and I don’t think city will get away with it. Great game of football although a nasty way to loose. I think it’s all too play for in the league but probs two horse race now . We deserved more in my opinion but it’s done.
Football turns alot of fans into hypocrites , I think Utd have had one too many dodgy decisions over the years not including the trademark “fergie time” for this article to hold enough validity for me ……. Although i do hope Utd win the title as in my opinion they have always been the better team. Id rather the title was won not bought.

I don’t think there was much in it between us and Spurs yesterday and I don’t think there’s much between us generally. Two very good sides who deserve to be in the top 4.

It’s true that, at 2-2, anyone could’ve won it but losing the game would’ve been harsh on us given we created more chances in the game overall. An unusual (for this level) mistake got Spurs back into it. But I can well understand how disappointing it is to lose a game like that, especially when there’s a chance to complete the comeback and turn it into victory.

For all the haters that call City mercenaries I think it’s fairly clear that there’s a fantastic team spirit. The glory hunter tag is also frankly ludicrous.

As for bought success, I think anyone who understands football knows that it’s not just a case of spending – I think Mancini deserves some credit for how quickly he turned us into a decent side. It’s been harder for City than Chelsea who already had a top 4 team. When we were taken over we still had players like Michael Ball in the side.

Few fans of the old top 4 stop to consider that, for any team to break into the quango needed serious *initial* investment. Breaking into the top 4 with a 20 million pound squad with only sweat and industry is nothing more than a pipe dream. Spurs had investment but over a slightly longer period – however, they deserve more credit than us for what they’ve achieved with less. But I don’t buy that they’re paupers, nor are United. One way or another, all titles are ‘bought’ but good management is also a huge factor.

To all the Man Shity fans on this page.. Why are u on a Man United fans website. If you say that we are obsessed with the blue money bags then why did u come onto this page. And in fact its the Man Shity that are obsessed with United. Mancinis men just want to be the best team in Manchester while we look to be the best team in the world. And we have achieved this so many times. Jealously.

Sounds like you don’t really understand how the Internet works. As you’re likely a simpleton I’ll say no more.

  9. Stoney says:

Balotelli charged with violent conduct by the FA. Says it all. The people on here saying it was ‘accidental’ crawl back in to your violent and abusive tolerating holes. The world is turning to sh!te because of people like you and balotelli who think it’s ok to act with complete disregard for others and won’t accept responsibility for your heanous actions. You and balotelli need to grow up. Better still, pack your bags and bugger off to the other side of the world.

    • Goatfacekillah says:

Says it all? So when the FA make a decision that you agree with, or that goes for you, they’re the perfect arbiter?

Fair enough, I happen to think the stamp was more likely intended than accident (although I’m not 100% sure and no one can be apart from Mario). It’s interest to read United fans cry conspiracy when it goes against you.

I don’t mind retrospective action being taken, as long as it’s taken all the time – which it isn’t.

      • Stoney says:

I’m not a united fan. I’m a spurs fan so I have no local axe to grind. I’m trying to be objective. But firstly I’m a decent upstanding human being who wouldn’t dream of stamping on somebody’s head or elbowing them in the face. I never have and I never would (unless they were to threaten the ones I love) and certainly not over a game of football. Parker’s challenge was neither reckless or even a foul so why the assault? With balotelli it’s no longer about football, it’s about right and wrong… And balotelli is a wrongun of the highest order and so is anybody who defends his continually moronic actions.

Rags making excuses already and we still have 16 games to go,this game hasn`t won us the title but the one we won at the Swamp might have.1-6 ha ha didn`t half help our goal difference.

    Thanks for that Rags…..
